HALLWAY INSPIRATION

HALLWAY INSPIRATION

Hallway in Charleston Gray No.243 | Estate Emulsion   The first impression of your home is very important – it should be welcoming but stylish. It’s the best place to start when redecorating your home as it gives the first impression and is the centre of the home. It’s important to create a flow between spaces, so ensure you choose a colour that complements the colours used in rooms coming off the hallway. It can work well to choose a complementary colour that is darker than the colours used in the rooms as this will make them seem lighter and more airy. Try painting the space Mahogany or Down Pipe to create a dramatic entrance.   Hallway in Mahogany No.36 | Modern Emulsion Hallway in Blazer No.212 | Estate Emulsion   Lighter colours can help make a space seem larger, particular if you use a darker shade on the woodwork. The use of a darker colour on woodwork will make the walls above it seem lighter and the room feel more spacious, it also gives a more contemporary feel. Try painting walls Strong White with woodwork in Cornforth White for a contemporary decorating scheme that will make your room seem larger.   Hallway in Tourbillon | BP 4802 Hallway in Dimity No. 2008 | Estate Emulsion   A clever way to make a long, narrow hallway feel more spacious is to paint the end wall a darker shade than the side walls as this will help to prevent a tunnel-like effect.   Hallway walls in Strong White No.2001 and door and woodwork in Down Pipe No.26 | Estate Emulsion &...
BATHROOM INSPIRATION

BATHROOM INSPIRATION

Bathroom in Brinjal No.222 | Modern Emulsion   Small bathrooms are often painted white or light colours in the hope that this will make them appear bigger and brighter. This can work, however it can also create a dull room with little character, instead paint bathrooms in stronger colours and create a truly unique and glamorous space. Bathrooms and downstairs toilets with little natural light offer the perfect opportunity to add bold colour without committing to larger, more lived-in rooms in the home. Using strong warm colours, such as Brinjal, Stone Blue or Plummett, will help to create a dramatic yet intimate space. You could even use bold wallpapers like Lotus or Orangerie to the same effect.   Bathroom in Lotus | BP 2019 Bathroom in Stone Blue No. 86 & Bath in Rectory Red No. 217 | Modern Emulsion & Estate Eggshell   For a relaxing bathroom, try using Purbeck Stone. It’s a strong neutral – neither too grey to be edgy and uncomfortable, nor too creamy to feel dated. Combine with two lighter shades, Ammonite and Cornforth White, to create a relaxed and contemporary colour combination. A popular idea is to paint the underside of a freestanding bath in stronger shades like Pelt or Rectory Red to add a pop colour to off-white bathrooms.   Bathroom in Pointing No.2003 & Blue Gray No.91 | Modern Emulsion & Estate Eggshell Bathroom in White Tie No.2002, Bath in Pelt No.254 and Floor in Cornforth White No.228 | Modern Emulsion, Estate Eggshell & Floor...

The slightly muted shades of French Gray, Light Blue and New White also work really well in creating a soothing effect. Couples are often drawn to Cream (with a hint of yellow for the ladies and a hint of grey for the men). However, for a more feminine feel, you could try painting a bedroom in Calamine with a Cinder Rose ensuite, or for a more masculine room you could use Stiffkey Blue in the bathroom alongside a Skylight bedroom.   Bedroom in New White No.59 | Estate Emulsion   Bedroom in Calamine No.230 | Estate Emulsion   ADD ACCENT COLOURS Adding accents of colour is another great way to update a bedroom. Kitchen in String No. 8 and Card Room Green No. 79 | Modern Emulsion & Estate Eggshell BRING NATURE IN Green hues help to bring some of nature back in to the home and work especially well if you have a kitchen that looks out on to a garden. Mizzle is a beautiful grey green that could be used on your cupboards to complement a neutral shade on the wall, such as Dimpse. Pigeon is another wonderful and easy to live with colour; darker than Mizzle but with the same calm, grey properties it’s ideal for painting a kitchen island.   Kitchen in Wimborne White No.239 | Modern Emulsion    Kitchen wall below picture rail: Mizzle No. 266, Wall above picture rail: Dix Blue No. 82, ceiling: Wimborne White No. 239, table top: Manor House Grey No. 265 and table legs: Porphyry Pink No. 49 | Modern Emulsion & Estate Eggshell ADD BOLD COLOUR Kitchens are a great place to add striking colour, adding interest to the rooms which can be dominated by white or chrome appliances. Warm colours, such as Terre D’Egypte, India Yellow, or even London Clay will help to create a cosy environment. However, if you want a more neutral scheme then try pairing warm neutrals like Smoked Trout with Matchstick, or Mole’s Breath with Purbeck Stone for a more contemporary feel.   Living Room wall in India Yellow No.66, cupboard: Mahogany No.36, upper skirting: Old White No.4 and lower skirting: Off-Black No.57 | Casein Distemper and Dead Flat   Living Room ceiling in All White No.2005 and feature wall in London Clay No.244 | Estate Emulsion   CREATE LIGHT & SPACE To create a living room that’s full of light and space it’s best to use the lightest colour on the largest surface area, such as the walls, and a darker tone on the woodwork. For a fresh look, why not try paring soft colours like Pale Powder or Calluna with darker shades of green and purple, like Chappell Green and Brassica. The use of a darker colour on the skirting boards not only makes the walls appear lighter in contrast, but it can also create a strong contemporary aesthetic. You can achieve the same effect by using a dark colour like Down Pipe or Railings on the floor with a white on the walls.   Living Room in Hardwick White No.5 | Estate Emulsion    Living Room walls in All White No.2005 and floor...
